Performance order of works is left to the contestantÕs discretion at
the competition.
All appropriate information must be included in the application for each work
listed:
Title of the work, with catalog (K., L, etc.) or opus number, key, and tempo markings
Movement number and tempo markings for larger pieces (sonatina, sonata, suite, etc.)
The performance time for each work and each individual movement within works
ComposerÕs last name and historical style period
All pieces must be performed by memory and in their original form. No cuts or editing are allowed to the works performed. No repeats but D.C. and D.S. must be included.
Level A: Up to age 8 | Performance time: 6 minutes
Piece(s) by baroque
or classical periods. Another piece by a composer of a different period
other than baroque or classical.
Level B: Age 9Ð11 | Performance time: 10 minutes
Any Bach or 1st or 3rd movement of a Classical Sonata or 1st
or 3rd movement of a Sonatine by Clementi, Kuhlau or Biehl and Romantic
piece and Impressionistic or Contemporary piece.
Junior Level: Age 12Ð14 | Performance time: 20 minutes
Four (4) pieces
representing the following periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic
or Contemporary. (One movement is allowed for sonatas)
High School: Age
15Ð18 | Performance time: 25 minutes
1. Bach Prelude & Fugue (WTC Book I or II) or another work containing a fugue. No transcriptions permitted.
2. An etude by Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Scriabin or Rachmaninov.
3. A classical sonata (one or more movements are allowed).
4. A major work representing the romantic, impressionistic or contemporary periods.
Young Artists: Age 19Ð25 | Performance time: 30 minutes
1. Bach Prelude & Fugue (WTC Book I or II) or another work containing a fugue. No transcriptions permitted.
2. An etude by Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Scriabin or Rachmaninov.
3. A classical sonata (one or more movements are allowed).
4. A major work representing the romantic, impressionistic or contemporary periods.
*Time includes pauses between pieces
A movement of any piano concerto. Contestants will perform the entire movement at the competition. Cuts are only allowed in the piano accompaniment.
